MIcardis is a prescription medication used in the treatment of hypertension, or high blood pressure. Micardis does this by decreasing certain chemicals in the body that cause blood vessels to become narrow and sodium and fluid to be stored by the kidneys. Micardis is sometimes used in treatment together with other blood pressure medications.

Interactions:

Contraindications:

If you have any of these conditions, your physician may require either a dosage adjustment, special monitoring during treatment, or you may be prohibited from taking Micardis altogether.

Micardis is classified as FDA pregnancy category D, meaning this medication may cause harm to an unborn baby.

Side effects:

Stop taking Micardis and call your physician immediately if you have any of these serious side effects:

•   feeling light-headed, fainting;
•  painful or difficult urination;
•  swelling, rapid weight gain;
•  chest pain, fast or pounding heartbeats;
•  jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); or
•  skin rash, bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness.

Other less serious side effects include:

•  runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, cough;
•  muscle or back pain;
•  diarrhea, stomach pain or upset;
•  headache, dizziness;
•  tired feeling;
•  dry mouth; or
•  impotence, loss of interest in sex, or trouble having an orgasm.

Other side effects not listed here may also occur. Inform your physician about any side effects that are particularly persistent or bothersome.

Dosage:

Take Micardis only as prescribed by your physician. Frequency and dosage may vary with the type of condition. Missed dose

Take the missed dosage as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medication to make up for the missed dosage.

Overdose:

Seek immediate medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine.

Storage:

Store Micardis at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) and away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep Micardis out of the reach of children and away from pets.
