Contraindications:

Consult with your physician before taking Micardis Plus to determine if you have a sensitivity to its formulation, which consists of:

(active) telmisartan, hydrochlorothiazide (inactive) sodium hydroxide, meglumine, povidone, sorbitol, magnesium stearate, lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, maize starch, sodium starch glycolate, iron oxide red.

Inform your physician if you have any of the following conditions BEFORE taking Micardis Plus:

• Pregnant
  
• Breastfeeding
• Allergy
  
• Asthma, bronchial-May have an increased risk of allergic reaction to hydrochlorothiazide
• Congestive heart failure (severe)-May worsen condition and cause kidney problems
• Dehydration (fluid and electrolyte loss due to excessive perspiration, vomiting, diarrhea, long-term diuretic therapy, dialysis, or dietary salt restriction) or
• Sympathectomy-Blood pressure-lowering effects may be increased
• Type 2 diabetes mellitus-May require a dosage adjustment of diabetes medicine
• Systemic lupus erythematosis-Hydrochlorothiazide may cause this condition to become active or worse
• A blockage in the gallbladder or bile ducts, or
• Liver disease- Blood levels of telmisartan may be higher in patients with this condition. If hydrochlorothiazide causes loss of too much water from the body, problems can become much worse
• No urination, or
• Kidney disease-Use of telmisartan and hydrochlorothiazide may cause kidney or urinary problems to become worse

If you have any of these conditions, your physician may require either a dosage adjustment, special monitoring during treatment, or prohibit you from taking Micardis Plus altogether.

Micardis Plus is classified as FDA pregnancy categories C (first trimester) and D (second and third trimesters), meaning this medication may cause injury and even death to the developing fetus.

Side effects:

Immediately inform your physician If you experience the following conditions:

Hypokalemia, such as convulsions, decreased urine, dry mouth, irregular heartbeat, increased thirst, loss of appetite, mood changes, muscle pain or cramps, nausea or vomiting, numbness or tingling in hands, feet, or lips, shortness of breath, unusual tiredness or weakness; hypotension, such as blurred vision, confusion, dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up from a lying or sitting position, sudden sweating, unusual tiredness or weakness; tachycardia such as fainting, fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat, or pulse palpitations; urinary tract infection , such as difficulty in urinating, frequent urge to urinate, painful urination

Angioedema, such as large, hive-like swelling on face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, sex organs

Other less serious side effects may also occur, such as:

Dizziness;
cough, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat
Abdominal pain; back pain; bronchitis, such as cough producing mucus, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, chest tightness; cough; diarrhea; dyspepsia, such as acid or sour stomach, belching, heartburn, indigestion, or stomach discomfort upset or pain; fatigue; headache; influenza-like symptoms, such as chills, cough, diarrhea, fever, general feeling of discomfort or illness, headache, joint pain, loss of appetite, muscle aches and pains, nausea, runny nose, shivering, sore throat, sweating, trouble sleeping, unusual tiredness or weakness, vomiting; nausea; pain; pharyngitis, such as dryness or soreness of throat, fever, hoarseness, tender, swollen glands in neck, trouble in swallowing, or voice changes; rash; sinusitis, such as pain or tenderness around eyes and cheekbones, fever, stuffy or runny nose, headache, cough; vomiting

Other side effects other than those identified here may also occur. Inform your physician of any side effects that are particularly persistent or bothersome.

Dosage:

Take Micardis Plus only as prescribed by your physician. Frequency and dosage may vary with type of condition. Missed dose

Take the missed dosage as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dosage, skip the missed dosage and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medication to make up for the missed dosage.

Overdose:

Seek immediate medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medication.

Storage:

Store Micardis Plus at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) and away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep Micardis Plus out of the reach of children and away from pets.
