Memantine is a prescription medication used in the treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer-type dementia. Memantine works by inhibiting the excess activity of glutamates, substances found in the brain. This inhibition of glutamate may reduce the symptoms associated with Alzheimer disease. Memantine is a medication used only in the treatment of the symptoms of Alzheimer disease, and is not a cure for the diseas.

Contraindications:

  • dizziness, tired feeling;
  • weight loss;
  • swelling in your hands or feet;

  • skin rash;

  • urinating more than usual.
