Contraindications:

Benazepril may increase the risk of dangerous allergic reactions.

Benazepril is in the FDA pregnancy category D, which means that it can cause harm and even death to an unborn baby. Benazepril can be passed on through breastfeeding and can be harmful to nursing infants.

Interactions:

Do not take LOTENSIN without first talking to your doctor if you are taking other prescription or over-the-counter medicines; including vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements.

LOTENSIN may also interact with any of the following medicines:

• Ericosanoids and polpeptides, including endogenous bradykinin.
• Diuretics
• Potassium-sparing diuretics and potassium supplements.
• Oral anticoagulants.
• Lithium.

You may not be able to take LOTENSIN, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring if you are taking any of the medicines listed above.

Side effects:

LOTENSIN side effects reported in patients were generally mild and transient. No relation was found between side effects and age, duration of medication and total dosage. LOTENSIN side effects include:

• Headache.
• Dizziness.
• Fatigue.
• Somnolence.
• Nausea.
• Cough.

If you develop allergic-type reactions, stop taking LOTENSIN and seek immediate medical attention.

Side effects other than those identified here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any LOTENSIN side effect that seems unusual or bothersome.
