COREG (carvedilol) is a prescription drug used for the treatment of mild to severe chronic heart failure, adjunct to other medications. It is also indicated to help reduce risk of death in patients who have survived heart failure. COREG also reduces risk in patients with left ventricular dysfunction, and controls hypertension.

COREG is not approved for use in children less than 18 years of age.

Contraindications:

Interactions:

Do not start COREG medication without first talking to your doctor if you are taking other prescription or over-the-counter medicines; including vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements.

COREG may also interact with any of the following medicines:

• Quinidine, fluoxetine, paroxetine, and propafenone.
• Hypotensive agents.
• Cyclosporine or digoxin.
• Calcium channel blockers like verapamil or diltiazem.
• Insulin and oral hypoglycemics.

You may not be able to take COREG, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring if you are taking any of the medicines listed above.

Side effects:

The most common COREG side effects reported include:

• Dizziness.
• Fatigue.
• Hypotension.
• Diarrhea.
• Hyperglycemia.
• Asthenia.
• Bradycardia.
• Weight gain.

COREG can make you feel dizzy, tired or faint. Do not drive a vehicle, operate machinery, or do anything that needs your full alertness.

If you develop allergic-type reactions, stop taking COREG and seek immediate medical attention.

Side effects other than those identified here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any COREG side effect that seems unusual or bothersome.
