Contraindications:

(active) irbesartan, ( inactive) lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinized starch, croscarmellose sodium, poloxamer 188, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate.

If you have any of the following conditions, inform your physician BEFORE taking Avapro:

•  kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis);
•  liver disease;
•  congestive heart failure; or
•  high levels of potassium in your blood (hyperkalemia)
• allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances

If you have any of these conditions, your physician may require either a dosage adjustment, special monitoring during treatment, or prohibit you from taking Avapro altogether.

Avapro is classified as FDA pregnancy category D, meaning this medication can cause harm to an unborn baby.

Side effects:

Inform your physician immediately if you experience any of the following serious side effects while taking Avapro:

•  swelling, rapid weight gain;
•  chest pain, fast heart rate;
•  nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
•  painful or difficult urination; or
•  urinating more or less than usual, or not at all.

Other less serious side effects are also likely to occur, such as:

•  diarrhea, heartburn, upset stomach;
•  feeling tired, nervous, or anxious;
•  fever, chills, sore throat, stuffy nose, flu symptoms;
•  dizziness;
•  headache;
•  joint or muscle pain; or
•  dry cough.

Side effects other than those identified here may also occur. Inform your physician about any side effects that are particularly persistent or bothersome.

Dosage:

Take Avapro only as prescribed by your physician. Frequency and dosage may vary with the type of condition. Missed dose:

Take the missed dosage as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dosage, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medication to make up for the missed dosage.

Overdose:

Seek immediate medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medication.

Storage:

Store Avapro at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) and away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep Avapro out of the reach of children and away from pets.
