ALTACE (ramipril) is a prescription drug indicated for the treatment of hypertension. It also helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke or death due to cardiovascular causes.

Contraindications:

Interactions:

Do not take ALTACE without first talking to your doctor if you are taking other prescription or over-the-counter medicines; including vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements.

ALTACE may also interact with any of the following medicines:

• Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
• Diuretics.
• Potassium supplements and potassium-sparing diuretics.
• Salt substitutes with potassium content.
• Lithium.
• Eicosanoids and polypeptides, including endogenous bradykinin.

You may not be able to take ALTACE, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring if you are taking any of the medicines listed above.

Side effects:

ALTACE side effects reported by patients were usually mild and transient. Adverse reaction to therapy included:

• Headache.
• Dizziness.
• Fatigue.

More serious ALTACE side effects included:

• Hypotension.
• Increased coughing.

If you develop allergic-type reactions, including swelling of the face, extremities, lips, tongue, glottis and/or larynx, stop taking ALTACE and seek immediate medical attention.

Side effects other than those identified here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any ALTACE side effect that seems unusual or bothersome.

Dosage:

Take ALTACE exactly as prescribed by your doctor. ALTACE dosage and frequency varies with type of condition.
